2023 season

This past year our BetaWolves FLL teams grew from 3 to 5. Competing at NMU gave the students a different but educational experience. Learning gracious personalism was a major part of the season and at the competition they succeed making new friends and helping whoever they could, never a frown on a face.

About

The 2019 BetaWolves FLL team was built of three teams consisting of third, fourth, and fifth graders. It was a completely different experience to compete in the Kingsford competition because instead of using the standard tools and parts, participants used Legos. For the children and our school, it was an entirely different experience. We were able to broaden the focus of our school beyond athletics by incorporating STEM into the elementary courses.

For the 2020 and 2021 seasons, we will be holding our own tournament to give our parents an even more engaging experience and to cut down on the distance they had to travel to see their kids. The kids would not have been as startled by the strange event because they had a taste of what a competition would be like without actually participating in one. Our sixth-grade pupils are now eligible to move on to our FTC with their newly acquired knowledge.

In 2022, they made their first trip to Northern Michigan University to take on rival universities. Years before, they had competed against teams of their own in events held at our school. They were meeting new people and seeing different points of view now. being thoroughly exposed to the idea of perfectionism with grace. Additionally, the students had to go through the judging process, where they had to present their robot design and innovation project—a solution to a problem assigned to them for the season—to three adults.

We upgraded two teams from the used EM3 robots to spike prime robots in the middle of the 2023 season. Raising the learning curve for a completely new robot. During the NMU tournament, students witnessed both their robots in action and the robots from other schools making friends while competing.
